*blows dust off this journal*

I'd like to apologize to the people on my friendslist. Not like your world revolves around me or anything, but all the same it's rude to leave a party and not say good-bye, and I'm sorry. I cannot begin to explan the strange forces that affect my LJ-tropism.

3:30 pm - wtf?
Sudden intense craving for an iPod. Why? Why now? Nutritional deficiency? Planetary forces?

I don't know. BUT I WANTS ONE, YES I DOES.

6:48 pm - Today I am grateful for:
The internet, because it has facilitated the collection and display of

"It is my goal to have the most complete collection of gaping animal maws that anyone can have."

3:02 pm - My Gratitude Journal
it has recently come to my attention that Livejournal is CRANKY about the percentage of time it's used for grousing (also, porn, but it doesn't mind the porn). as my personal reparation, over the next few days I will endeavour to each day post about one thing for which I am grateful.

today I am grateful for:

anchovies. delicious tiny salty hairy fish! neatly filleted so I don't have to think about their having internal organs. easily converted from fish-piece to paste. flat, or festively rolled. they make other people leave my pizza alone.

thank you, anchovies.

hey y'all. just wanted to let you know that i'm feeling much better -- sad, but peaceful. i think i burned out all the "wahh" receptors in my brain. everybody's been so kind. it's really comforting to know that so many people feel the passing of this tiny dog.

in other news, have randomly hauled off and bought an immense antique Chinese wedding bed. bzuh? we've been wanting a real/bigger bed for years, but... this one? where the hell are we going to put it? how ridiculous will it look in our largely Arts-and-Crafts house? was this really the time to blow a wad of cash credit on something that we were surviving without? answer: who cares, we love it, we'll fit it in somehow, it was a great deal, wot like we were going to buy a bed at Ikea instead? what the hell. it's craziness but it's completely our craziness.

i already know that i'm going to have to take the top crest off or it won't fit in the room. it's enroute from Shanghai right now, should be here in two weeks. wish us luck.

ETA: more views of the bed, by popular demand INSIDE MY HEAD.

9:39 am - gosh but my subconscious is unsubtle.
Last night I dreamed that I saw Mae's funny little crooked tail disappearing around a corner. I yelled and went running after her, but she was gone. Gee, whatever can it mean?

9:02 pm - ow.
we went away to the beach for the weekend. At about 9:30 this morning we went to pick the dogs up at the kennel, which is run by our wonderful vet. she looked grim, said that Mae was having trouble breathing; she'd stabilized her but we needed to take her to the emergency room right away. we did. they discovered that not only was one of her lungs filled with somethingorother, she had a large blood clot in her heart.

there were a few things that could have been done, but nothing that would have actually improved her poor prognosis; there was no way to get the clot out. and all interventions would have involved her spending nights alone in the hospital, rather than on the pillow of our bed as she's accustomed.

i feel like saying "she died," because she did, but the truth is that we killed her. i don't regret it. we couldn't have left her there alone and scared unless it would've helped, and it wouldn't have. she was just a little dog. she wouldn't've understood.

have been crying solidly for about eight hours. my head is pressure-packed full of snot.

what a hell of a price we pay for loving these animals.

10:37 pm - accomodations: check.
Sept 8-11 we'll be staying near Marble Arch. All I can remember about Marble Arch is that it's where the Oxford Tube lets you off. So that's okay, then.

Sept 11-14 we're in Oxford, on Banbury Road in Summertown, at a bed & breakfast that distinctly exudes l'air d'homosexualitie. Plus, breakfast!

So far, items on our itinerary are few: see the costume exhibit at the V&A. um, okay, are one. Possibly see the Globe Theatre all-female production of "Much Ado About Nothing" (which I have neither seen nor read, so fun). Trawl Camden to buy E some DMs. Meet up with some London fangirls. From Oxford, possibly day-trip out to Bath and think Jane Austeny thoughts.

If any of you have suggestions or would like to join in any of these excursions/endeavors, lemme know! Am hoping to have many Camuses around, at least for the first half. Happily, girlfriend's asthma is being drugged into submission as we speak; it may not be impossible to enter a house with cats.

Now must finish laying out High Holy Days program. I know I shouldn't have spent a million years completely regenerating the shul's logo from scratch, but the version they had was crap resolution and I just. couldn't. take it. no ma'am I could not.

LONDON (AP) - Armed with new intelligence from Pakistan suggesting al-Qaida plotted to attack Heathrow, the sprawling airport that is Britain's main aviation hub, police on Thursday questioned a dozen suspects held on terrorism charges.

But at Heathrow, a man reading a newspaper with the front-page headline "HEATHROW BOMB PLOT," told a reporter he was unaware of any security scare.

10:21 pm - what do gay men do for a living in England, anyway?
i am confused and upset.

see, th' girlfriend and i like to Stay Gay when we travel. the reasons are simple: fabulous decor, better shopping/bar advice, and we're major faghags. oh, and we don't get management banging on the door trying to persuade us to move to a room with two twin beds (as happened to us one time when we were in flagrante delicto Limerick.)

this has been no problem in the states. so merrily i go chirping along, looking for some gay b&bs in London and Oxford --

and no! hardly any! is it even legal for gay men not to be running b&bs?

*deep sigh*

current mood: appalled

10:50 pm - on the discovery of digital watches.
why did no one tell me about digital watches?

i love my love with a D, for it is Digital and it tells me the Date.

it has an alarm. it has a stopwatch so i can see exactly how long the bacon's been in the oven (otherwise known as the Bacon Button). it beeps every hour on the hour, just to let me know that it loves me.

i've thought about turning off the beep, but i am not ashamed of my watch. besides, i'm the last one in the hemisphere who doesn't own a mobile phone. i figure i'm entitled to cause my mite of noise pollution.

i feel like such a dupe for living all these years without a digital watch. i blame society.

in other news:
various problems are swiftly being resolved so that
we can attend triskellian and smiorgan's wedding!

woo! also, hoo!

very much looking forward to seeing as many of you as humanly possible.

does anyone know if it's more sensible to stay in Oxford or in Wantage?

On the whole, gay men are a heck of a lot better looking than gay women.
